- Castoreum is used in perfumery as a fixative and to impart a leathery note, particularly in fern, chypre, amber, and oriental bases and blends particularly well with dry wood, calamus, cananga, cedarwood, chamomile, labdanum, eugenol, oakmoss, sandalwood, vanilla, and ginger, among others. The absolute is a resinous, solid material, dark orange-brown in colour.
